Summer LIHEAP applications will be accepted beginning Monday, July 6 for eligible households in accordance with Arkansas LIHEAP guidelines.
LIHEAP (Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program) is a federal initiative designed to help low‑income households manage their energy costs and prevent utility shutoffs. In Arkansas, a statewide network of 15 community-based organizations (CBOs) administers the program across all 75 counties, guiding eligible residents through the application process and helping them access heating assistance in winter, cooling assistance in summer, and crisis-related support as needed. The program is typically administered through local Community Action Agencies (CAAs) and is intended to reduce the energy burden by ensuring households can cover essential energy bills.
Applications are usually accepted on a first‑come, first‑served basis during two filing periods each year: January 1 to April 30 and July 1 to September 30.
Eligibility generally targets households at or below a certain share of the state median income. Benefits range from roughly $60 to $600. To apply or get more information, contact your local CBO (see chart below), or you can search for assistance by ZIP code at www.findhelp.org. If you’re unsure about options or timelines, reach out to the Community Based Organization dedicated to your county. They will be your best guide through this process. Your CBO will also be able to advise you about documentation needed to process the LIHEAP application.
Applicants must provide ID; Social Security documentation for household members; proof of income for the previous four weeks or a Zero Income Form; most recent utility bill; and their lease or housing documents if utilities are included. Other documents may be required - check with your CBO for a full list of required documents for the LIHEAP application process.
