Powering Arkansas is a project of the Southern Renewable Energy Association, an industry-led effort representing renewable energy stakeholders across the Southeastern United States. We bring together policymakers, local residents, and developers to advocate for practical, inclusive power solutions that benefit all Arkansans—now and in the future.

Powering Arkansas serves the people of Arkansas by advocating for a stable, affordable, and resilient energy system. We believe reliable electricity is foundational to families’ well-being, local economies, and opportunities for every child to thrive. By uniting policymakers, communities, and developers, we work to strengthen the grid so outages are shorter and less frequent. We champion transparent, evidence-based decisions that balance affordability with environmental stewardship, so Arkansas can grow a cleaner, healthier future without compromising reliability or cost. Our mission is to empower every neighborhood—from rural towns to urban centers—to access dependable power, reduce energy burdens, and build resilience against rising energy costs and extreme weather.

Why we do it: Energy is a backbone of everyday life - homes, schools, healthcare, and small businesses rely on it. When energy is affordable and reliable, families have less financial stress, kids have more stable school days, and communities can attract investment and opportunity.

Powering Arkansas

The coming years will test our state’s electricity reliability. Arkansas faces a growing power-generation gap driven by rising demand and shifting demographics. Today, roughly 50% of our power is imported. It’s time to reclaim control by expanding domestic, diverse generation - wind, solar, and reliable baseload resources - so Arkansans own the power we use.

This plan isn’t about subsidies or politics. It’s about lower bills, local jobs, and a more resilient grid for tomorrow. By investing in local generation, we reduce dependence on neighboring states during extreme weather events, strengthen Arkansas’ energy security, and shield our families and neighbors from price shocks. We can pursue practical, market-based policies while streamlining permitting, investing in storage and grid modernization, encouraging private investment, and ensuring rural communities stay connected.

The result: more local power, more local jobs, and greater freedom from volatile energy prices. It’s Arkansas-made power - empowering Arkansans with reliable, homegrown energy.

Challenge Misinformation

Powering Arkansas partners with communities across the state to counter misinformation about renewable energy and to support community leaders in crafting clear, practical language for advocating when wind or solar projects come to their areas.

By forming broad coalitions across the state, we advance practical, affordable power solutions that protect everyday Arkansans.
